We fulfill our mission by providing information, educational programs, demonstrations, and energy efficiency programs and services that encourage practical actions people can take to improve the energy efficiency and environmental sustainability of their homes, businesses and communities.

Services We Provide

Residential & Commercial Energy Assessments and Audits

Urban and Northern Options conduct quality energy assessments and audits for for residents, businesses, government and institutions. These services can be tailored to the needs of the client and include cost savings analysis and prioritize recommended energy efficiency improvements.

Low Income Energy Services

Urban and Northern Options implement energy efficiency education and service programs to the low income population of Michigan. Programs include: free energy assessments; installation of weatherization materials, water-saving devices, and high efficiency lighting; heating system repair or replacement; and educational workshops and training for low-to-no cost weatherization practices.

Energy Education Workshops and Seminars

Michigan residents and businesses can learn low cost ways to improve their energy efficiency and lessen their impact on the environment. We provide practical solutions that prioritize energy efficiency improvements for homes and businesses.

Featured Programs

Change a Light Change Michigan

Changing Michigan starts with simple actions. You can help conserve energy resources, reduce the risks of global warming and save money by simply switching to compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) in your home and business.

Urban Options was awarded $1,000,000 by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to expand its current CFL awareness campaign called Change a Light, Change Michigan that offers consumers CFLs for as little as 99 cents at participating retailers across Michigan. The next Change a Light, Change Michigan ENERGY STAR® CFL promotion will kick off on July 17th, 2009!

Energy Fitness Program

Thisprogram provides energy analyses, installation of weatherization materials and high efficiency lighting, and education to low and moderate income households in Lansing. A FREE service for qualifying City of Lansing residents. Coming soon!

Individuals at both the Urban Options and Northern Options Energy Centers provide answers to commonly-asked questions and serve as handy resources for finding additional information on related topics.

ENERGY STAR® Product Promotion

We coordinate the sales and promotion of energy efficient products in cooperation with Michigan retailers by providing instant rebate incentive coupons for qualifying products.

Rebuild Michigan Seminars

The organization serves as the leading partner and coordinator of the Rebuild Michigan initiative in the Mid and Upper regions of the state. The Rebuild Michigan Program is designed to assist public K-12 schools, colleges, universities, local governments and public housing authorities with improving the energy efficiency of their buildings. This program offers technical assistance and attractive financing information for cost effective projects.
